Critical Outlook
The poetic view of Richard V. Rice

An American Promise
America is displaying an unusual unity
Let's hope and pray that America;
Won't deprive me of my patriotic fervor.
America claims it is a land for all;
Let's hope and pray that America
Won't remind me I'm a Black American.
America has been guilty of being partisan
Let's hope and pray that America
Will not return to the past of America.
America never freely allowed patriotism;
Let's hope and pray that America
Will live up to the true meaning of its creed.
America is the land of the partially free
Let's hope and pray every one in America
Can say without reservation, free at last;
America is free at last, free at last, we are free!
Let's hope and pray it is true for all America,
That she will not deprive me of my liberty.
